October 18th, 2016 – This workshop happened at Sports Basement in San Francisco with Glen Helfand’s undergraduate California College of the Arts’ Physical Exhibitions class. After the physical warm up, the students’ challenge was to first draw a pattern then an animal that they felt was self-representational in a meaningful way. All the students stepped up to the challenge, combining (and clashing) patterns and animals both fiercely and thoughtfully. It is a blast working with Glen’s P.E. classes.
After the Collaborative Combative Drawing workshop we discussed another challenge involving taking apart everyday gestures and actions and preforming them backwards… this became a homework assignment. Stay tuned for the results!
